Job Seekers Tell Us the 20 Weirdest Job Interview Questions
Job Seekers Tell Us the 20 Weirdest Job Interview Questions Job Seekers Tell Us the 20 Weirdest Job Interview Questions 6In March of this year, we ran a contest looking to hear your weirdest job interview questions posed during your search. There was a great response, and we were able to hear just how crazy interview questions can get. And, although we have heard of oddball interview questions before, the 20 below take the cake! Here are some of the weirdest job interview questions asked of job seekers: âIf you were a pizza topping, what topping would you be and why?â Lisa âDoes your husband mind if you work?â Cindi âSo what do you want to be when you grow up?â Harvey âSo, whatâs your dress size?â Kate âDo you bake?â Linda âDo you like to walk on the moon?â Melissa âIf you were a crayon, what color would you be and why?â JeanMaria âForest or the Trees?â Kirk âIf both your parents were drowning, and you could only save one, which one would you save and why?â Elizabeth âHow would you convince someone to do something they didnât want to do?â Cathleen âIf you could be any toy, which toy would you be?â Marcella âWhat is the most historical event that has ever taken place?â Marcy âYouâve been given an elephant; you canât give it away or sell it. What would you do with the elephant?â Pat âIf you were in a salad, what ingredient would you be?â Karen âWhat would you do if someone walked in the building with a live snake and asked you to identify it?â Donna âIf a movie was made about your life, which actress would play you?â Kathleen âWhatâs the last thing you watched on TV and why did you choose to watch it?â Katharine âWhy are manholes round?â Melissa âIf there was an elephant in your car, how would you get it out?â Erin âIf you were a car, what car would you be and why?â Ellen Why Employers Ask Weird Job Interview Questions Clearly, there are A LOT of interesting questions posed to job seekers. While a few of the above could be borderline illegal interview questions, the others are asked for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons employers have embraced weird questions is so they can see how well you think on your feet. While some of the oddball questions may not have a correct answer, some do and can be used for some of the following scenarios: To see how candidates set priorities To see their planning abilities To understand reasoning processes To watch candidates problem solve To see if a candidate can get the job done How to Tackle Some of the Weirdest Job Interview Questions How are job seekers supposed to prepare for interview questions? Since many are off the wall and can vary based on the job a person is interviewing for, itâs better to focus on the process of answering rather than the answer itself. Sometimes its in the details where the impression is made. Before going on an interview, brush up on some of the popular odd interview questions and practice how you would answer them. Donât be to hasty and blurt out the first thing that comes to mind, especially if you donât have a filter and do have a love for sarcasm. Donât take too long to answer though. Spend a few seconds repeating the question as it sinks in and then give them your best answer. Stay calm and try to focus, but donât mumble or stare off into space. Take a deep breath and perhaps give a (non-awkward) smile. Try not to focus so much on giving the right answer. Most of these questions are designed to evaluate how you think and reason. For instance, if I were a toy, Iâd be Legos or Play-Doh because then I could be molded into anything! Readers, which of the weirdest job interview questions would you prefer to be asked?
